UNIMATIC is a young, Milan-based maker of minimalist sport watches. All UNIMATIC timepieces are produced in highly limited runs with a keen eye to combining value with performance and aesthetics. To add to the latter Character Type created a set of custom numerals built into a variable font.
The Unimatic numerals were produced as a Variable Font thereby allowing the brand to design the watch editions in a very nuanced way.
Made within the last two years of World War II, the Dirty Dozen is a set of twelve field watches from twelve different Swiss watchmakers. The were used by British service man and are now coveted collectors items. There design inspired the Unimatic watch style as well as the numerals.
Modello Quattro UT4-B combines the best of both dive and field watch attributes.
The extended and super-extended styles (right) were designed to be used on the watch bezels. As space gets tighter in the watch center the normal, condensed and compressed styles are mostly used there.
