HUK-COBURG

With over 13 million customers HUK-COBURG is one of the 10 largest German insurance groups and the largest insurer for private households in Germany. In 2024 the branding agency Strichpunkt conducted a comprehensive brand redesign for HUK-COBURG. Character Type designed the friendly and accessible custom fonts including a variable font based on the new brand values. We were also involved in redesigning the logo by contributing the slab serif typeface.

Brand Design

The custom typeface family is an integral part of the brand design. It reflects the brand values and communicates in a friendly way with customers and employees alike.

The HUK-COBURG logo was reworked by Strichpunkt. Character Type got to help with a new slab serif logo typeface. The serifs are a nod to the past typeface. Each glyph had to be redrawn completely to evolve into a slab serif letter.

While HUK-COBURG only operates in Germany their customers come from all over the world. And so its in HUKs interest to write their names correctly. We designed the character set in adherence of DIN 91379 conforming the typeface to EU accessibility standards.
